November 17, 2023

The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MoDA) has unveiled a four-year, NT$1.34 billion (US$42.8 million) investment plan aimed at enhancing digital resilience, as reported by the Commercial Daily News on November 16. The initiative focuses on 18 critical public service systems, including the Health Insurance System, Immigration Management System, and Vehicle Management System. Through the implementation of encrypted distributed backup mechanisms, these systems are designed to guarantee the provision of essential digital services to society during large-scale disasters. Additionally, the ministry has earmarked NT$1.37 billion (US$43.8 million) for a five-year cloudification program, concentrating on 29 vital public service systems.

In the realm of industry supply chains, Taiwanese companies have identified "raw material shortages," "labor shortages/quarantine," and "reduced demand/sales" as the primary challenges affecting their operations, according to a survey conducted by the Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC). The survey sheds light on the key concerns within the Taiwanese business landscape, emphasizing the multifaceted impact of global events on local industries. Established in 1987, MIC is a division of the III (Institute for Information Industry), a prominent government think tank and one of the leading IT research institutes in Taiwan.
